Black History Month Closing Ceremony

Pastor Marcus Carruthers of Fayetteville to speak about broadening the dream into purpose.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas will end the celebration of Black History Month with a closing program at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House. The event is free and open to the campus and the Northwest Arkansas community. The theme for this year's events was "Celebrating African Heritage at Home and Abroad." University programs and events were designed to reflect and commemorate the legacy of Africans in America since the 1600s.

The featured speaker for the program is Marcus Carruthers; pastor of The Dwelling Place Church in Fayetteville. The title of his talk is "From I have a dream to...I have a purpose." Carruthers received a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from Grambling State University. He served six years on the ministerial staff at First Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark. He has worked for several Fortune 500 companies such as Tyson Foods Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Additional program items include gospel music by The Dwelling Church Choir, an inspirational music performance and a liturgical dance performed by UA students.

Dinner will be served. Sponsors for the closing event are the Black Alumni Society Director, Tyson Foods and Catering Unlimited.
