UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS TELEVISION PROMOTIONAL SPOT WINS TOP ADMISSIONS MARKETING AWARD

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas "halftime spot" -- the 30-second feature of student testimonials to the University aired during halftimes of televised Razorback athletics events -- has won the top prize in the 15th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards conducted by "Admissions Marketing Report," the national newspaper of admissions marketing.

The category is "television advertising/single spot," for schools with 10,000 or more students. The University of Arkansas won the Gold. Strayer University won the silver, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee won the bronze, while Kent State, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and Erie Community College each won merit awards.

"We're delighted that both our work and the University have been recognized by this national marketing organization from dozens of institutions across the country," said Roger Williams, associate vice chancellor for University Relations. "Recognition of this caliber is a testament to our staff's creativity and commitment to the University and to our growing status as a nationally competitive institution."

Rebecca Wood, manager of media relations, wrote, choreographed and produced the spot, in conjunction with Ozark Film and Video Productions Inc. of Springdale, Ark.

The spot features students providing testimonial as to how the University of Arkansas is helping them reach their goals through the values and ideals the University stands for: school pride and academic accomplishment, a diverse campus population, global career and study- abroad opportunities, Senior Walk as a tribute to each graduate, and tradition as the cornerstone of each student's future.

Designed for a life of two years, the promotional premiered in the fall of 1998 and aired again in the fall and winter athletics seasons of 1999-2000.
