Johnetta Cross Brazzell Is Elected As Trustee Of The North Central Association Of Colleges And Schools

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Johnetta Cross Brazzell, University of Arkansas vice chancellor for student affairs, was recently elected to serve as a trustee for the commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Brazzell will be one of 16 education professionals from across the country who serve on the board.

"I can certainly add, to the institutional accreditation process, the perspective of student affairs professionals," Brazzell said. "I believe also that my work on the commission will enhance the perspective I bring to the University as a whole."

The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, founded in 1895, is a not-for-profit, voluntary membership organization of elementary, secondary and post secondary institutions. It is devoted to the improvement of education through evaluation and accreditation. The board of trustees is the decision and policy-making body of the commission. The commission accredits almost 1000 higher education institutions throughout the nineteen-state region of the association. This includes Arkansas.

Brazzell's four-year term as a trustee will begin on September 1, 2000.

Brazzell joined the University of Arkansas in January 1999. Prior to joining the U of A, she served as faculty member and vice president for student affairs at Spelman College in Georgia from 1993 to 1998.
