Environmental Law Society to Draft Model Legislation, Requests Student Input The Environmental Law Society will meet at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Room 339 of the Leflar Law Center. The meeting will focus on the organization's plan to draft two pieces of model legislation. It is open to the entire campus and undergraduates are encouraged to attend. Joshua Bailey, a second-year law student and the president of the organization, said one of the pieces of legislation will be a proposal to raise the severance tax on natural gas and place the proceeds in environmental stewardship and a public education funds. The second piece will deal with environmental protections during the drilling and extraction phase of natural gas production. "This will be an intensive project involving legal research and student outreach," Bailey said. "We would like to see students from all over campus take an interest in the environment and join us as we discuss these two important issues." The Environmental Law Society is a student-led group that seeks to educate students on environmental law and policy issues and areas of practice. The society also seeks to make a positive impact in the state through student activism and community initiatives. |
