Speakers Scheduled For September 12 Memorial Service For John Locke

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Members of the University of Arkansas campus and the community will offer tributes during a memorial service for John R. Locke scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, in Giffels Auditorium, Old Main, on the UA campus. The public is invited.

Speakers will include Randall Woods, dean of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences; John King, professor of sociology and chair of the UA Faculty Senate; Bill Harrison, University Professor Emeritus of English; Geoff Oelsner, social worker; Michael Phillips, stepson of Dr. Locke; Virginia Krauft, a psychologist in Fayetteville; John DuVal, professor and director of the Program in Literary Translation; Barbara Taylor, UA associate vice chancellor for human resources; and Brad Meadows, UA student.

Associate Professor of English and head of the Program in Comparative Literature, Dr. Locke died Monday, August 28, after he was shot in his Kimpel Hall office on the University of Arkansas campus. He was 67.

A table will be set up near the front of Giffels Auditorium where those attending may leave small tokens of memory for display, should they wish to do so. These can be returned after the service.
