American Baritone Matthew Carey To Perform At The U Of A

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - American baritone Matthew Carey will sing a program of English and American songs on Monday, October 16 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Concert Hall at the University of Arkansas.

The program will include Songs of Travel by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Four Walt Whitman Songs by Kurt Weill and a group of songs by George and Ira Gershwin.

Carey, a native of Greenwich, Connecticut, has sung throughout the United States and Germany in opera productions, concerts and recitals. He has studied at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, the University of Michigan, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and Yale.

In 1992 Carey joined the ensemble of the Bühnen der Hansestadt Lübeck, where his leading roles included Figaro in Barbiere de Seviglia, the father in Hänsel und Gretel, and Wolfram in Tannhäuser. He has also appeared with the symphony orchestras of Hamburg and Finland. Since 1997, he has been on the voice faculty of Arkansas State University.

He will be accompanied by Joy Fiala.
