FedEx Freight Sponsors Five Logistics Scholarships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – FedEx Freight of Harrison, Ark., has provided five scholarships to students in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas through the Supply Chain Management Research Center.

“The Walton College has goals of increasing student diversity and student retention; these awards will go a long way to help meet these goals,” said Jim Crowell, director of the center. “In addition, they will help us increase the transportation and logistics student enrollment.”

Two of the scholarships were awarded to students whose ethnic, cultural or national background contributes to the diversity of the transportation and logistics program. Summer Johnson, a senior from Russellville, and Ashleigh Toatley, a junior from Little Rock, each received $1,000.

The other scholarships were awarded based on the results of a term-paper logistics competition. This scholarship, designated to encourage students to research areas impacting the transportation industry and less-than-truckload carriers, was awarded to three students. Tim Harris, a senior from Bella Vista, and Maria Torres and Casey Kehoe, both seniors from Rogers, each received a $1,000 scholarship. Their paper is titled “North American Free Trade Agreement and Its Effects.”

The Supply Chain Management Research Center is a direct link between the private sector and the University of Arkansas supply chain resources. It sponsors activities that promote both the academic and general body of knowledge encompassing supply chain management.
