University of Arkansas Benefactors Remain Strong in Times of Financial Crisis

Last week, the University of Arkansas National Phone Campaign — the university’s call center where students contact alumni and friends to ask for support of university programs — secured nearly $70,000 in gift commitments. The students had a record night Wednesday, Oct. 8, raising $39,000 in only four hours.

“During a time of serious financial uncertainty, this level of support for the University of Arkansas is truly outstanding,” said Brad Choate, vice chancellor for university advancement. “Without a doubt, our alumni and friends are dedicated, and they know their support is one of the ‘must haves’ if we are to continue and improve upon the educational experience we are so proud to offer our students.”

 The call center, which employs 60 University of Arkansas students, is an arm of the office of annual programs within the department of university development.

“It was a collective effort of hard-working staff,” said Ashley Glass, manager of the phone campaign. “Everybody worked together, and we had a lot of fun.”
