No Swine Flu Cases at University of Arkansas; Health Center Vigilant, Offers Prevention Tips

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Up-to-the-minute information about the H1N1 “swine” flu, its symptoms and ways to prevent the disease can be found on the Pat Walker Health Center Web site at: http://health.uark.edu/.

No cases of H1N1 flu have been reported at the University of Arkansas, or in the state of Arkansas, as of 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

University of Arkansas health officials are monitoring the campus population and are on the lookout for any possible cases of the illness.

“Pat Walker Health Center medical providers are seeing patients with a variety of illnesses, a few of which include flu-like symptoms. Students who have flu-like symptoms are encouraged to contact Pat Walker Health Center. As of today, we have had no patients with H1N1 symptoms or diagnosis. We encourage everyone to continue to practice good hygiene,” said Mary Alice Serafini, director of the Pat Walker Health Center.

Health Center officials are following the initial steps of the university’s Emergency Preparedness Plan. They are in daily contact with the Arkansas Department of Health and are following all protocols set forth by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control.
