RazALERT Test a Success

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The test of the University of Arkansas RazALERT Emergency Notification System was a complete success. A test message was sent by e-mail, voice mail, text message and teletype message to every e-mail and phone account registered in the system at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. Students, faculty and staff members reported receiving text and cell phone messages at 3:02 p.m., e-mail messages at 3:05 p.m., and land line phone messages beginning at 3:12 p.m.

The RazALERT (pronounced “raise-alert”) system sent out a total of 34,128 e-mail messages and 14,365 text messages.

Cell phone and land line messages were sent to more than 25,000 distinct users, and the RazALERT system reported a 93.7 percent successful delivery rate. Reasons for unsuccessful phone delivery ranged from busy signals to inaccurate numbers.

Members of the university community who did not receive a RazALERT test message should double check their contact information in the ISIS or BASIS systems. ISIS is the Integrated Student Information System, the database used by students for university account information, and BASIS is the Business and Administrative Strategic Information System, the database of faculty and staff on campus.

Students, faculty and staff members of the University of Arkansas are automatically registered to receive RazALERT messages based on the e-mail addresses and phone numbers listed in their ISIS and BASIS accounts. Individuals can have as many as six phone numbers and two e-mail addresses in an account. Contact information can be updated or changed at any time through the ISIS or BASIS accounts.

More information about RazALERT is available at http://razalert.uark.edu/.
