Posted:5/19/2009 Children's Adventure Garden Supported by Ross Foundation Gift
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Children and families across the state of Arkansas will benefit greatly from a generous $104,750 gift from the Ross Foundation to Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, which is part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. The resulting Evans Children’s Adventure Garden, named for Bob and Sunny Evans of Hot Springs, longtime supporters of the gardens, will aim to provide educational services that are of particular interest to children. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Octa N. High almost dropped out of school after her junior year at the University of Arkansas due to her family’s inability to afford her tuition during the Great Depression. Fortunately, the institution was able to provide enough financial support for her to earn a bachelor’s degree in zoology in 1933. She remained grateful throughout her life for the university’s assistance toward completing her degree. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas held a dedication for the naming of the Walter L. Brown Foyer in Old Main at 4 p.m. Friday, May 1. Brown was an esteemed member of the University of Arkansas history faculty from 1954 to 1990 in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Known for his inspired teaching, he instilled in his students a love of learning that lasted far beyond the time they spent on campus. He also secured the university’s reputation as the state’s flagship institution for Arkansas studies. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Six initiatives on the University of Arkansas campus were awarded grant money totaling more than $56,000 from the university’s Women’s Giving Circle April 17. Members of the circle consider funding proposals for campus projects on an annual basis, and every member of the circle has the opportunity to vote on which project or projects will receive funding for the current year. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Board of Trustees member Ben Hyneman (B.S.B.A., 1971) and his brother, Hal Hyneman (B.S.B.A., 1977), decided they would like to help young people with financial need attend the University of Arkansas. A $50,000 gift from Hyneman and Associates Inc. to establish the Frank and Marzee Ann Hyneman Access Arkansas scholarship will do just that. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The family of Robert B. Moberly, dean emeritus and professor of law, and Lynne M. Webb, professor of communication in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, has established the Reed JeeMinSeo Moberly Endowed Scholarship to celebrate the life of Reed Moberly. The scholarship, endowed by the family’s $25,000 gift, will be awarded to students who will contribute to a diverse educational environment at the School of Law. |
Posted:3/5/2009 Dedicated Teacher From Rural Arkansas Remembered Through Endowed Scholarship
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Gladys Harris dedicated her life to teaching. She was born in 1904 in rural Arkansas, the youngest of nine children. After completing the 8th grade, which is as far as school went in those days, she began teaching elementary school. Eventually, the state of Arkansas required school teachers to work toward a college degree in order to continue to teach, so she took evening correspondence courses and on-campus courses in the summers. She would ride the bus to college every summer because she never learned to drive a car, and she lived in the residence halls. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas public radio station, KUAF 91.3 FM, surpassed its fall fundraising goal in only five and a half days. The drive took place Oct. 17-22. In addition to raising more than $140,500 against the $140,000 goal, the station also secured 300 new contributors, surpassing its goal of 250. |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas welcomed five new members to the Board of Advisors at a meeting held Friday, Oct 3. The Board of Advisors serves as the successor organization to the National Development Council and the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century Steering Committee, which headed the effort that raised more than $1 billion for the University of Arkansas. The board supports charitable, scientific and educational purposes related to the institution’s mission of teaching, research and service. |

Design, a supply chain planning and analysis software used by some of the

Network Design will be implemented by the Supply Chain Management Research
Center in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, as part of its ongoing
research into supply chain management. |

Ark. - Growing up, Emily Joyce McAllister was an award-winning pianist. She has
been a church organist since the age of 15 and is a third generation church
musician. While attending the University of Arkansas, she studied music - piano
and organ, specifically - and she has had a successful career as a professional
musician. Because of her love of music and the influence her study of piano and
organ have had on her life, J.W. and Emily McAllister have endowed the Emily J.
McAllister Endowed Professorship
in Piano in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences with a
$500,000 gift. Jura
Margulis has been named the inaugural holder of the position. |

Division of Student Affairs, has formed a corporate alliance with Arvest Bank. The $20,000
gift to the center enables Arvest Bank to have more visibility on campus and
more direct connections with students who may be interested in entering the
banking field after graduation. This is the first corporate sponsorship for the
center at this level. |

FAYETTEVILLE,
Ark. - At the halfway point of the 2008 fiscal year on Dec. 31, 2007, the
University of Arkansas had raised $48.9 million of its $87 million goal. This
total accounts for gifts received between July 1, 2007, and the end of the 2007
calendar year and excludes pledges. The more than 19,000 gifts received thus
far put the university at 56 percent of the annual fundraising goal. |

Ark. - Chancellor John A. White and Mrs.
Mary Lib White have established an endowed Access Arkansas
scholarship at the University of Arkansas.
The $50,000 gift is named the John Austin and Ella Mae McDermott White Future
Teachers' Endowed Scholarship, in honor of Chancellor White's parents. The
need-based scholarship is available to students in any academic unit whose
future plans involve teaching. |

ReliaSoft Corporation has donated $714,227 in cash and software to
the University of Arkansas to form and support the ReliaSoft Risk,
Reliability, and Maintainability Research Alliance. The software
donation will provide engineering students with state of the art tools
to help identify potential risks and calculate the severity of
disruptions within a manufacturing or transportation environment.
ReliaSoft Corp.'s chief executive officer, Pantelis Vassiliou, and the
vice president, Doug Ogden, presented the check at a formal ceremony at
the university in December. |
