Preparing for College: A Parent's Guide to the College Admissions Process

A session will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in Mullins 104 for parent’s preparing to send their child off to college. The college admissions process is the first step your child will need to take towards earning a college degree.   Do you know what they need to do to be prepared?   Unfortunately, if you wait until your child is a senior in high school to learn what they need to do to apply it may be too late to help them meet the requirements.

Using the University of Arkansas as an example, representatives from the Office of Admissions, Honors College, Academic Scholarships Office and Office of the Treasurer will cover time lines and other “need to know” steps you can take to support your child in meeting requirements and deadlines for college applications.  This session will benefit any employee of the University of Arkansas, but will be of particular interest to faculty or staff with children currently in grades 8 through 11.

Topics that will be covered include:

•    High School Requirements

•    When to Take the ACT

•    Applying for Scholarships

•    Paying for College and the UA Employee Tuition Waiver for Dependents

There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers from participants.  If you have a question that you would like to send in advance, please e-mail it to HR.Training@uark.edu. Seating is limited.  If you wish to attend, please sign-up for this class online at http://hr.uark.edu/Training/TrainingCalendar.asp or by calling 575-4432.
