Distinguished Professor Honored by Alma Mater
He is a well known leader in the technique of Fourier transform mass spectrometry. He and his students were also among the first to demonstrate the feasibility of a gas chromatography-infrared-mass spectrometry combination. The award is being given in recognition of his pioneering discoveries in analytical spectroscopy and contributions in the area of computer-assisted chemical analysis, which resulted in his 1980 election to chair of the ACS Division of Computers in Chemistry and his 1991 election as chair of the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry.
