CHORUS MEMBERS FOR UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS OPERA PERFORMANCE NEEDED

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- UA Distinguished Professor Sarah Caldwell will debut on March 15 a world premier of a contemporary opera in English as well as two complete acts of "La Traviotta," sung in Italian. The University of Arkansas opera program is seeking chorus members from the campus and the community for the opera. Anyone with choral experience is welcome to participate.

Participants with the chorus will have the opportunity to work with one of the world's most respected opera conductors, Sarah Caldwell, as well as other distinguished musicians and performers, including Richard Crist of the UA music department, who has sung with the Metropolitan Opera.

During the bulk of the rehearsals, chorus members will work with Chris Lacy, associate professor of music. After the opera has been fine tuned and rehearsed, Caldwell will take over.

There will be 11 rehearsals and one or two performances.

Rehearsals will run three weeks in January and four weeks in February with each rehearsal lasting approximately three hours.

The performance is being administered through the UA Division of Continuing Education.

Those interested in performing should attend registration at 7 p.m., January 15 in the choral room on the 3rd floor of the music building on campus. For more information on the program and on registration, contact Chris Lacy at 575-2326.
