UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS PLANS CAMPUS OBSERVANCE DURING NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- As part of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, the University of Arkansas will hold a campus observance at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the front steps of Old Main, to memorialize those Americans killed in Tuesday's acts of terrorism.

Students, faculty and staff as well as the general public are invited to attend. To facilitate attendance, the sixth class period, from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m., will be cancelled. In addition, the University is asking that all social and athletics events scheduled for Friday be suspended.

"We are holding this observance to honor the memory of the thousands of Americans who lost their lives in this unprecedented tragedy, and to demonstrate support for their families and friends and for our nation," said UA Chancellor John A. White.

Campus groups and organizations are urged to turn out in an expression of sympathy for the victims and solidarity for the nation.

Those who attend also are urged to bring a single flower to the observance. At the conclusion of the event, participants will walk from the steps of Old Main to the J. William Fulbright Peace Foundation, where the flowers will be placed in an act of remembrance.

Campus religious organizations are encouraged to have their places of worship open all day, particularly for those who wish to visit before and after the campus observance.
