Fulbright Peace Fountain photograph

Photo Caption:

Flowers surround the Fulbright Peace Fountain on the University of Arkansas campus on the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. The U of A held a campus observance Friday, Sept. 14, at the front steps of Old Main to memorialize those Americans killed in Tuesday's acts of terrorism. An estimated crowd of 5,000 attended, consisting of students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public.

The Fulbright Peace Fountain was funded by 115 individuals and 18 countries, including $300,000 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On October 24, 1998, the fountain was dedicated to promoting peace through education in honor of former UA President J. William Fulbright, who, as a U.S. Senator, was instrumental in developing ties between the United States and the Middle East.
