UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS OFFERS DIRECTOR OF MEN'S ATHLETICS, FRANK BROYLES, FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Chancellor John A. White announced that today he has offered Frank Broyles, director of men's athletics, a five-year contract to remain in his current position. The contract will be renewable on an annual basis.

"I hope this will put an end to the intense speculation about Frank Broyles' future at the University of Arkansas," White said. "He is an important member of my administration, and I look forward to working with him for many more years."

Broyles has accepted the offer to remain at the University as director of men's athletics. "I am grateful to Chancellor White for his continued confidence in me, and I plan to work as hard as ever to bring about his vision for the University," Broyles said. "It is a vision I share with great enthusiasm. The University of Arkansas has made incredible progress under his leadership, and I want to be a part of our drive to excellence. I will continue to support all he is doing to make this institution one of the best in the nation."

In addition to his athletic responsibilities, Coach Broyles will assume the role of chairman of the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century effective July 1. He takes over from Jim Walton who currently serves as chairman. The campaign is a seven-year effort to raise $900 million for academic excellence.

"Frank Broyles has built one of the finest athletic programs in the nation," President of the University of Arkansas System Dr. B. Alan Sugg said. "I am certain the University will continue to prosper from his leadership."
