UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS STUDENT NOMINATED FOR CO-OP STUDENT OF THE YEAR

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Arkansas computer engineering major Anthony Dalby of Little Rock has been nominated for the cosponsored Cooperative Education & Internship Association (CEIA)/ Cooperative Education Division of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE / CED) 2002 Co-op Student of the Year Award.

CEIA/CED conduct an annual awards competition for outstanding co-op students who meet strict criteria. The students must be employed during the academic year, have completed two or more work sessions, be enrolled in a four-year / five-year degree program, be active in state or regional organizations and have academic and professional achievements recognized at those levels.

Dalby was nominated for the CEIA/CED award because of the cooperative education he did at The Boeing Company from August 2001 to December 2001 and from May 2002 to August 2002. He was one of the first sets of UA students ever to work a co-op education at The Boeing Company's St. Louis, Mo., facility for Military Aircraft and Missile Systems Design.

As an undergraduate cooperative education engineer, Dalby worked with flight simulators and avionics integration systems. He designed and integrated a panel in simulators for a new configuration of the F-18F, worked with Finnish and American engineers on a program to supply the Finnish Air Force with a testbench for the fleet of F-18s, and volunteered in Boeing's "A World in Motion" program that enhances elementary students' math and science skills through hands-on experiments in classrooms.

A graduate of Catholic High School in Little Rock, Dalby entered the U of A with a Chancellor's Scholarship. He has been routinely named to the College of Engineering Dean's list and Chancellor's List, is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and the Association of Computing Machinery/Computer Engineering Society. He is a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, a member of a liturgical musical group, recipient of the Marine Corps Reserve Officer Award and the Senior Cadet Officer Leadership Award.

Dalby, the son of Sterling and Kathy Dalby of Little Rock, will receive a letter and certificate of recognition for his national nomination. If he is named Student of the Year, he will receive a $1000 cash award and will be invited to receive his award at the CEIA Awards Banquet at the 2002 CEIA Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
