BROWN RECEIVES HONOR FROM NATIONAL SOCIETY

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - William D. Brown, associate dean for research and University professor of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, has been selected as a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society for his contributions to the science and application of dielectric materials to microelectronics technology.

Brown joined the UA electrical engineering faculty in 1977 and served as head of the department from 1983 until 1998. In 1991, he established the High Density Electronics Center and served as its first director. He was named associate dean for research for the college in 1999.

His research in microelectronic materials and devices, solid-state and semiconductor physics, and electronic packaging has resulted in eight U.S. patents with three pending, 280 technical conference presentations and 250 technical journal/proceedings publications. He has authored or co-authored 14 textbooks and manuals, and has served as the North America regional editor of the Microelectronics and Reliability Journal. While department head, he served as secretary/treasurer, vice-president and president of the National Electrical Engineering Department Heads Association. Brown is currently a member of the executive committee of the Integrated Petroleum Environmental Consortium and the Board of Governors of the Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Brown received the Thomas D. Callinan Award from the ECS Dielectric Science and Technology Division in 1996 for his contributions to the field. Founded in 1902, ECS is an international professional society with a membership of 7,000 scientists and engineers in over 75 countries.
