University Students Design Project to Benefit Homeless

Students in the architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and engineering programs of the University of Arkansas will hold a design competition at Seven Hills Homeless Center this Saturday.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark - Students in the architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and engineering programs of the University of Arkansas will hold a design competition at Seven Hills Homeless Center this Saturday. The students plan to design and eventually build a reception desk where the homeless may receive clothes and toiletries, learn about job opportunities, place phone calls, and send and receive mail.

"It's pretty much a command center," said architecture student Jared Hueter, co-chair of the group. "We feel this is a great opportunity to expand our education beyond the classroom and create a positive impact on our community."

The project is the first undertaken by a new multidisciplinary student group, Re:Vision, that plans to develop design-build projects that benefit the community. For more information on the group please visit http://projectlocus.org/revision.htm.

WHO: University of Arkansas students; faculty advisor Gregory Herman; Seven Hills director Eric Samuels; members of Seven Hills board; and a committee of homeless clients.

WHAT: Design Competition for Seven Hills Homeless Center
