'City of Visitors' to Premiere on AETN March 17

"City of Visitors: The Story of Hot Springs, Arkansas," an award-winning documentary by UA Associate Professor Dale Carpenter premieres on the Arkansas Educational Television Network at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - "City of Visitors: The Story of Hot Springs, Arkansas," an award-winning documentary by UA Associate Professor Dale Carpenter premieres on the Arkansas Educational Television Network at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17.

The 90-minute documentary examines the political history of Hot Springs and the difficult choices that face a city thriving on various forms of illegal entertainment and recreation.

The film features interviews ranging from authors and historians to the late Arkansas Gov. Sid McMath, in what is believed to be his last taped appearance.

Among those highlighted in the documentary are politicians, including Herbert Hoover, Orval Faubus and Winthrop Rockefeller; gangsters such as Al Capone and Bonnie and Clyde; and other well-know American historical figures, including Babe Ruth, Wyatt Earp, Helen Keller and Frank James.

Carpenter has won 50 regional and national awards since 1986 for his documentary films, including Gold Medals from the New York Festivals, a Golden Cindy award, the Iris award and an Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
