YOUNG WRITERS LEARN FROM THE PROS AT KIDSWRITE II

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A group of young authors will explore their own writing and learn from veteran writers at the first KidsWrite II writing camp from July 21 through 25 at the University of Arkansas. During the intense five-day camp, students will focus on developing a piece of writing to include in an anthology to be published on the last day of camp.

KidsWrite II features presentations by three seasoned writers: Vivian Schilling, a Los Angeles screenwriter who has relocated to Northwest Arkansas, will speak on Monday, July 21, at 10:45 a.m. Samuel Totten, professor in the UA College of Education and Health Professions, will discuss poetry and rhetorical stance on Tuesday, July 22, at 9:00 a.m. Noted poet Miller Williams will speak to the writers on Wednesday, July 23, at 10:45 a.m. All sessions are held in room 209 of Peabody Hall on the UA campus.

KidsWrite II, which enrolls students from grades 8 through 12, grew out of the KidsWrite camp for younger students and is a spin-off of the Northwest Arkansas Writing Project. KidsWrite II is organized by two NWAWP teacher consultants, Betsy Penix and Lynette Terrell.

The Northwest Arkansas Writing Project is affiliated with the National Writing Project and has been organized locally by Totten since 1996.
