Tax Time Resources

As the federal deadline for filing taxes approaches, reporters can get valuable information about some of the changes in tax law and recurring issues regarding taxes from Deborah W. Thomas, the Nolan E. Williams Lecturer in Accounting.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - As the federal deadline for filing taxes approaches, reporters can get valuable information about some of the changes in tax law and recurring issues regarding taxes from Deborah W. Thomas, the Nolan E. Williams Lecturer in Accounting. Thomas, a professor of accounting in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, is a certified public accountant and has five years of law practice focusing on tax issues. She also researches tax policy and compliance.

On March 4, Thomas, Christina Ritsema of Hope College in Holland, Mich., and Tracy Manly of the University of Tulsa, Okla., presented a paper at the annual conference of the Journal of the American Taxation Association in Washington, D.C. Their research covers the characteristics and motivations of nonfilers, based on data collected during Arkansas' most recent tax amnesty. The three also continue to conduct research about attitudes of Middle Americans regarding electronic filing of taxes.
