Pre-College Programs Offers A Taste of College Experience to Young Students

The University of Arkansas' Educational Talent Search and College Project programs will host 50 8th, 9th and 10th grade students for the overnight camp, "Experience College," June 15-16.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas' Educational Talent Search and College Project programs will host the overnight camp, "Experience College," June 15-16. Fifty 8th, 9th and 10th grade students from schools in Benton, Crawford, Sebastian and Washington counties are participating in the camp.

"Experience College" allows students an opportunity to explore potential careers and college majors in the areas of technology, broadcast journalism, engineering/architecture and fashion merchandising.

Below is a schedule of events:

June 15 - 10:30-11:30 a.m.

     Geospace - Ozark 215

     Broadcasting - CAT Station (located at 101 W. Rock St., off of Fay. downtown square)

     Fashion Design - Home Economics 105

     Spaghetti Bridge - Vol Walker Hall

1-5 p.m.

     Geospace - Ozark 215 and on campus conducting field work

     Broadcasting - traveling to other sites

     Fashion Design - Agri. Annex 210

     Spaghetti Bridge - Holcombe Hall

June 16 -  8-11 a.m

    Geospace - Ozark 215

     Broadcasting - CAT station

     Fashion Merchandising (8:30 start) - Home Economics 228

     Spaghetti Bridge - Holcombe Hall

 12:15-3:30 p.m.

     Geospace - Ozark 215

     Broadcasting - CAT station

Fashion Merchandising - field trip to BLEU, located at Village on the Creeks in Rogers and Northwest Arkansas Mall

Educational Talent Search and College Project are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The programs seek to identify, motivate and prepare 6th- to 12th-grade students for college entry and graduation. Partnering school districts include Fort Smith, Van Buren, Cedarville, Elkins, West Fork, Farmington, Lincoln, Prairie Grove, Decatur, Rogers, Springdale, and Bentonville districts in Arkansas, and Colcord and Moseley districts in Oklahoma.
