FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas and the Office of Student Affairs' First Year Experience will host the fourth annual Academic Convocation at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Bud Walton Arena.

Academic Convocation is the official university welcome to the entering 2005 class of freshmen. Students will be greeted by Chancellor John A. White, academic deans, staff and faculty. Following the ceremony, participants will be treated to food and entertainment at a "Burger Bash" at 5 p.m. outside Bud Walton Arena.

"Academic Convocation serves as a ceremonial beginning to the academic careers of these entering freshmen," said Johnetta Cross Brazzell, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. "The event also allows us, the university community, to pledge ourselves to these bright young men and women as we guide them through the academic journey."

Scheduled speakers include Chancellor John A. White, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Bob Smith and Vice Chancellor Brazzell. UA faculty and staff members will also be on-hand to welcome the incoming freshman class.

The ceremony also includes presentations conducted by current UA students and faculty. The first, presented by students from the School of Architecture, is titled "Designing Inclusive Housing for Arkansas (and the Nation)." The second, presented by students from the College of Engineering, is titled "Water for the World."

Media parking is available in Lot 46, located on the west side of the arena.
