Black Alumni Society, Black Students' Association Host Second Annual 'Black Symposium'

The Black Alumni Society (BAS) and the Black Students' Association of the University of Arkansas will host the second annual Black Symposium on Friday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House (at the intersection of Maple Street and Razorback Road).

The purpose of the symposium is to provide support and information for African-American students and offer an opportunity to meet members of the BAS board of directors, Black Students' Association officers, faculty and staff, campus organization representatives, community leaders and local business owners who provide ethnic products and services.

"In addition to an evening filled with music, fun and food, we will award four student scholarships in the amount of $250 - students must be present to win," says Angela Monts, assistant director of constituent societies for the Arkansas Alumni Association and Black Alumni Society campus liaison. "We hope to get the students engaged academically as well as culturally as they pursue their educational and professional goals," states Monts.

The event is open to all undergraduate, graduate and law students. For more information or to register for the symposium students should contact Angela Monts at (479) 575-2812 or Ernestine Gibson at (479) 575-3546.
