UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS ESTABLISHES STUDENT LEADER AWARD HONORING 1973 ALUMNUS, HENRY WOODS, JR.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A scholarship award recognizing an outstanding student campus leader at the University of Arkansas was announced today. The award honors Henry Woods, Jr., a 1973 graduate, who has spent the past 25 years in Washington, D.C. It was established by Woods' friends in his honor and will be presented annually beginning this fall.

Woods, who resides in Key West, Florida, began his Capitol Hill career on the staff of Congressman Bill Alexander in 1973. He later worked for Senators David Pryor and Dale Bumpers before ending his career earlier this year by helping Senator Blanche Lincoln set up her office.

While at the University, Woods was editor of the Razorback, involved in student government, the Arkansas Union, the interfraternity council and was named to Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities. He has been active in the University of Arkansas Alumni Association and for several years, coordinating the activities of the Arkansas State Society in Washington.

"Throughout his years in Washington, Henry helped so many Arkansans," said Skip Rutherford of Little Rock, who helped established the award. "He also designed and developed the best student intern program in the United States Senate and hundreds of Arkansas students have had the opportunity to participate."

Woods will be honored at a luncheon at the UofA on Thursday, April 22, with Bumpers and other friends in attendance.
