FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas' youngest and one of its most talented 1999 graduates, Kate Moffitt will be featured on a special commencement profile during the 10 p.m. KARK TV Channel 4 newscast on May 9.

Moffitt, a 17-year-old Rogers, Ark. native, is graduating Saturday will a degree in Animal Science.

She's been featured by numerous media sources, as one of the UniversityÕs most talented and interesting students.

"Kate is an Arkansas girl that is going above and beyond the average," said KARK assignment manager, Tammy Arnett. "It's great to see an Arkansan excel to such a level. We wanted to feature her because we think other kids will be inspired by her story."

That story includes being recruited by the prestigious Mary Baldwin College in Virginia to participate in its Program for the Exceptionally Gifted. The college takes high-ability girls form the ninth through eleventh grades and enrolls them in college courses.

Moffitt was 14 at that time and was recruited to the program after having made an exceptional score on a practice ACT.

Moffitt transferred to the U of A last year because she wanted to specialize in animal science with interest in attending veterinary school.
