Students in Apparel Studies Go to New York City
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Thirty-six apparel studies students in the School
of Human Environmental Sciences in Dale Bumpers College of
Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas
participated in a recent fashion industry tour of New York City.
Students met with apparel industry professionals to learn about
industry and color trends, product development and design, apparel
manufacturing and apparel marketing. Students also conducted research
assignments in Manhattan markets and analyzed shopping center formats
during the seven-day tour.
Kathy Smith, apparel studies instructor and one of the trip organizers,
said, "Upon completion of the trip, students were familiar with the New
York City markets, shopping districts and store formats, and obtained a
realistic interpretation of the apparel and manufacturing industry in
the New York City area."
Students worked with bridal designer Lazaro and sportswear designer
Genes. Apparel Studies advisory board member Mercedes Gonzalez of
Global Purchasing led Genes' seminar. Ashley Leonard, a University of
Arkansas alumnus, conducted a session in the Kenneth Cole Licensing
Division of G-III Apparel.
